Sunflowers — Summer, Delivered by the Armful

A sunflower does not ask for attention so much as take over the room. Broad, plain-faced and unapologetically yellow, it is the flower people send when they want to make someone laugh rather than sigh. At Floritta we hand-tie sunflower bouquets in our London studio and deliver them across the city the same day — from a fifteen-stem armful of a single variety to looser summer mixes where sunflowers sit alongside tulips, solidago and eucalyptus. If you want the flowers to arrive as a centrepiece rather than a bouquet, we also build sunflowers into flower baskets that need no vase at the other end.

When Sunflowers Are at Their Best

British and northern European sunflowers run from early summer to the first frosts, roughly June through to October, and that is the window when the heads are largest and the stems strongest. Outside it, we buy from Dutch glasshouse growers, so a sunflower bouquet is available all year — the heads are a little smaller in midwinter, and we say so before you order. There is more variety here than most people expect: Sunrich Orange for the classic bright face, Sunrich Lemon for a paler, almost buttery yellow, ProCut Red and Bicolour for rust and bronze petals around a dark centre, and the shaggy double Teddy Bear, which looks nothing like a sunflower until you look twice.

What to Send, and When

Sunflowers are a cheerful flower rather than a formal one, which makes them easy to get right. They suit birthdays in the summer months, a new job or a new flat, a get well message where roses would feel too solemn, and July graduations, when the yellow reads as celebration. They are also the bouquet to send when there is no occasion at all and you simply want someone's Tuesday to improve. For a bolder, warmer palette, our wider mixed bouquets pair sunflowers with roses, chrysanthemums and seasonal foliage.

Sunflower Delivery Across London and the UK

Order by 10 pm and we deliver sunflowers the same day across London — Mayfair, Chelsea, Kensington, Notting Hill, Fulham, Southwark, Islington, Canary Wharf and the surrounding areas — and across Greater London on the same terms. We also send sunflowers to addresses across the rest of the UK. Bouquets travelling outside London are set into florist's foam soaked with water, so they arrive already arranged and still drinking — not flat-packed through a letterbox. Delivery is free on orders from £99. Our studio takes orders daily from 8 am to 10 pm, and if you need a specific hour or a particular variety, tell us in the order notes and we will confirm before we cut.

Keeping Sunflowers Fresh

Sunflowers drink more than almost anything else in the shop. Trim two centimetres off each stem at an angle, stand them in a deep vase of cool water, and check the level daily — a large bouquet can empty a vase in a day and a half. Change the water every two days, keep the flowers away from radiators and fruit bowls, and give a very heavy head something to lean against if the stem starts to bow. Expect six to twelve days in the vase, longer in the cooler months. When the petals begin to drop, the seed head is worth leaving out for the birds.

Sunflower Delivery — Questions We Are Asked

Do you deliver sunflowers the same day in London?

Yes. Order by 10 pm and we deliver the same day across London and Greater London. Orders placed after the cut-off go out the following day.

Can you send sunflowers outside London?

Yes — we deliver across the whole of the UK. Bouquets travelling outside London are set into florist's foam soaked with water, so they arrive arranged and fresh rather than flat-packed as letterbox flowers. Delivery is free on orders from £99.

When are sunflowers in season in the UK?

Roughly June to October, when the heads are biggest. We stock sunflowers year-round from Dutch growers, with slightly smaller heads in the winter months.

How long do sunflowers last in a vase?

Six to twelve days, depending on the season. They are thirsty flowers — keep the vase deep, top the water up daily and change it every second day.

How much is a sunflower bouquet?

Our sunflower collection starts at around £39 for a small hand-tied bouquet and runs up to large basket arrangements for a table or a reception desk. The current price is shown on every product before you order.

Can I order sunflowers with other flowers?

Yes. Sunflowers mix well with tulips, roses, chrysanthemums and seasonal greenery. Choose a ready-made mix or ask for a bespoke bouquet and our florists will build it to your brief.
