Yes, you can send flowers to someone at work, and it is one of the easiest ways to make sure they actually see them on the day. The bouquet will only land well if three things are right: the person is in the office that day, the address gets the courier past reception, and the flowers suit a desk rather than a dining table. This guide covers all three, plus card wording and what to do if they are not in.
It is about sending a personal gift to one person at their workplace: a partner, a friend, a family member or a colleague. If your company needs flowers on an account, for clients or for a whole team, see our guide to sending flowers to an office and Floritta for Business.
Is it a good idea to send flowers to someone at work?
Usually, yes. Flowers that arrive at work are seen by the person straight away and often by everyone around them, and that is a big part of the pleasure for a birthday, a promotion, a new job, an anniversary or a well-done after a hard project. It also solves a practical problem: during the working day nobody is at home to take a delivery.
Two cases where home is the better address. The first is when the recipient is private or the relationship is new and they might not want their colleagues to ask questions. The second is when the message is personal, such as sympathy or an apology, and they would rather open it alone. If you are unsure, a gift card lets them choose their own bouquet and delivery date.
How do I know they will be in the office that day?
Since hybrid working became normal, this is the most common reason a bouquet to an office goes wrong: it arrives on a home-working day and sits at reception until the next week. Before you order, check which days they go in. If you cannot ask without giving the surprise away, a colleague, a team assistant or a shared calendar usually can tell you.
If the day you want is a home-working day, send the flowers to their home instead, or move the delivery to the next office day. A birthday bouquet a day early on their desk is better than one on the right day in an empty office.
What address details does the courier need?
Most failed office deliveries come down to an address that is fine for a letter but not for a person carrying flowers. Include:
- the recipient's full name, not a first name or a nickname;
- the company name, and the building name if it has one;
- the floor or department, and a desk or room if you know it;
- the full street address and postcode of the building, not of the company's head office.
At checkout the recipient's name and phone are separate fields from yours. Their number is used only if the courier cannot find the address, and in a large building that call is what gets the flowers upstairs. Anything reception or security needs to know, such as "leave at the front desk" or "ask for the team assistant", goes in the note for the courier.
What time will the flowers arrive?
Across London we deliver the same day on orders placed by 22:00, seven days a week, but a same-day order has no time slot: it arrives between 9 am and 11 pm, and an order placed early in the day in central London can arrive within a few hours, though no same-day delivery time is guaranteed. Office hours are shorter than our delivery day, so for a same-day office delivery order in the morning. Our guide to London cut-off times explains how the timing works.
The safer route for an office is to book ahead. Order for a future date and choose the 9:00 am – 1:00 pm window at checkout, and the courier works to it (on peak dates and in heavy traffic it can occasionally run a little later). Our next-day delivery in London works the same way. If the flowers must arrive at an exact hour, for example before a meeting, ask us in the order comment or on WhatsApp; an exact time is arranged on request and may carry an additional fee.
Which flowers are best for an office?
A workplace bouquet has to survive a day on a desk, a commute home and then a vase that may not exist. A few rules that help:
- Arrive ready to stand. Most offices do not have a spare vase. Flowers in a vase or a flower box can go straight on the desk with no water hunt. Anything sold in a vase is delivered in London only.
- Choose a size they can carry home. A hand-tied bouquet that fits on a desk is kinder than a huge arrangement they have to take on the Tube at 6 pm.
- Go easy on scent in shared spaces. Heavily scented flowers can be a lot in an open-plan office. Roses, tulips and chrysanthemums are a safe choice.
- Think about a plant. An orchid or a pot plant from our plants stays on the desk for weeks and needs almost no care.
Whatever you choose, the bouquet comes with care instructions, so the recipient knows how to keep it fresh once they get it home. Our flower care guide has the full version.
Can I send roses to my partner at work?
Of course, and it is still one of the most popular reasons people send flowers to an office. Decide first whether you want a statement or something discreet. A dozen or more red roses on a desk will be noticed by the whole floor; a few stems, such as three red roses, say the same thing more quietly. Twenty red roses sit in between. If you are wondering how many to choose, our guide to what the number of roses means helps.
Keep the card message something they would be happy for a colleague to read over their shoulder, and save the rest for later.
What should I write on the card?
Short and clear works best, because the card is often read in front of other people. A few ideas:
- Birthday: "Happy birthday! Hope the day is as good as you are. Love, A."
- Promotion or new job: "Congratulations on the new role. They are lucky to have you."
- After a hard week: "Just because. You have earned these."
- Anniversary: "Five years and counting. See you tonight."
- From a colleague: "Thank you for all your help this year, from everyone on the team."
The card message has its own field at checkout. If you want to stay a mystery, choose "Send anonymously" and your name is left off the card; "This is a gift" hides the price from the recipient.
What if they are not there when the flowers arrive?
In most office buildings reception or the post room signs for the bouquet and lets the recipient know. If the courier cannot find the address or nobody will take the flowers, they call the recipient's number from the order. That is why it is worth adding it, along with a clear courier note.
If the bouquet arrives damaged or is not what you ordered, send photos within 24 hours of delivery and we put it right. Our flowers also come with a freshness guarantee: they stay fresh for at least 3 days from delivery when the care instructions are followed, and if they wilt sooner, send a photo within those 3 days and we replace the bouquet.
Can I send flowers to someone at work outside London?
Yes. Outside London we send hand-tied bouquets by courier to mainland England, Wales and Scotland in 2–3 working days; same-day delivery is London only. For an office this matters more than for a home: allow the full 2–3 working days and make sure every day in that range is one they are in the office, or send to their home instead. Baskets, anything in a vase, helium balloons and funeral tributes are delivered in London only. See UK flower delivery for details.
Can I send flowers to a colleague for a birthday or leaving do?
Yes, and the same rules apply: check the day, use a full address with the floor, and keep the bouquet a size that fits on a desk. Good choices are our birthday flowers, thank-you flowers or congratulations flowers. Balloons from our balloon collection make a desk birthday impossible to miss, but check first that they are allowed in the building; they are delivered in London only. If the team sends flowers often, a company account saves typing the address every time, see Floritta for Business.
How do I order flowers to someone's workplace with Floritta?
Choose the bouquet, enter the recipient's full name and workplace address with company and floor, add their phone number and a courier note, and pick the delivery date and window. Write the card message, decide whether the order is a gift or anonymous, and pay. In London, orders placed by 22:00 go out the same day; for an office we recommend booking the morning window for a working day. More on areas and terms is on our delivery information page.
