What Actually Works, and What Does Not

The bouquets that work for Father’s Day are not the ones that work in March. Structure beats softness: sunflowers, anthuriums, dark red and burnt orange roses, chrysanthemum with a strong head, eucalyptus and grasses for texture, and greenery that holds its shape. Pastels, ruffles and heavy scent are the three things most likely to end up politely ignored.

Format matters as much as the flowers. An arrangement in a box or a vessel arrives finished and needs nothing done to it, which suits a recipient who has never owned a vase — see flower boxes. A hand-tied bouquet is the better choice if someone else in the house will deal with it. Both are in this collection; the difference is who does the work when the door opens.

The Date Is the Same in Britain and America — and Different Almost Everywhere Else

British Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June, and so is the American one: unlike Mother’s Day, which is in March here and May in the United States, this date does not split across the Atlantic. In 2027 it falls on 20 June.

Where it does move is worth knowing if you are sending abroad or if family send to you. Australia and New Zealand mark it on the first Sunday of September. Germany keeps it on Ascension Day, in May. Spain, Portugal and Italy hold it on 19 March, the feast of Saint Joseph. The mistake we see on international orders is not the country — it is the assumption that June is universal.

A Plant Instead of a Bouquet

For a father who grows things, or who simply keeps whatever is put in front of him alive, a plant is the better gift and the cheaper one over time. An orchid flowers for weeks and re-flowers for years with almost no intervention; a foliage plant asks even less. Both are in plants and orchids, and both travel across London the same day.

This is also the honest answer to «he does not really like flowers». Quite often what he does not like is a wrapped bouquet that dies in a week, not the idea of something living in the room.

June is the best month of the British flower year, and Father’s Day sits right in the middle of it. British peonies are still running and hold into early July, sweet peas and garden roses are at their peak, delphiniums and alliums give height, and the first British sunflowers arrive towards the end of the month — the ones available on the day itself are usually Dutch. Everything that comes out of a British field in June is short-stemmed, strongly scented and gone in three weeks, which is the argument for using it while it is here.

What that means for a Father’s Day order: ask for structure and texture rather than a specific variety, and let the studio use what came in that week. The collections that overlap this one are sunflowers, roses and peonies.

Delivery, and the One Day It Gets Tight

We deliver across London seven days a week, Sundays included, and take orders until 22:00 for the following day; within London, same-day delivery runs on orders placed by that time. Across the rest of the UK the last mile runs on working days, so an order for the Sunday itself should be placed earlier in the week — cut-offs and areas are in delivery times and cut-offs.

Is Father’s Day a good occasion for a birthday-style bouquet?

Only if his birthday is nowhere near it. The two occasions pull in different directions: a birthday bouquet is allowed to be loud and personal, a Father’s Day one usually sits better when it is restrained. If you need the loud version, it is in birthday flowers.
