Hydrangeas are the great late-summer flower in Britain. The main British and European garden window runs from June through to October, when hydrangeas are at their most generous — heavy heads of blue, lavender, dusty pink, soft green and antique cream, often shifting colour as the season goes on. Outside the summer window, we keep hydrangeas available year-round through carefully sourced Dutch imports, so a hydrangea bouquet is rarely out of reach. Caring for Your Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas drink generously, and the right care goes a long way. Most arrangements hold for around 7 to 14 days, depending on the variety and the season — and many varieties dry beautifully on the stem, so a fading hydrangea can quietly turn into a sculptural dried bouquet you keep for months. To get the most from yours, trim the stems at an angle, place them in a clean vase with plenty of fresh, cool water, and refresh the water every two days — the routine set out in our flower care guide. If a head starts to wilt, hydrangeas can drink through their petals — submerge the whole flower head in cool water for twenty to thirty minutes and you will often see it perk straight back up.

Are hydrangeas an expensive wedding flower?
They are usually one of the more economical ways to fill space. A single hydrangea head covers what would take five or six roses, so a hydrangea-led bouquet or centrepiece generally costs less than the same volume built from roses or peonies. Can you make a blue hydrangea bouquet?
Yes, and unlike a blue rose the colour is the flower’s own: hydrangeas turn blue in acid soil and pink in alkaline, which is why the same variety appears in both. Our Blue Velvet bouquet is ten blue hydrangea heads at £129, and blue hydrangeas also go into mixed bouquets with garden roses and lisianthus.
When are hydrangeas in season in the UK?
The main British and European garden window is June to October, when the heads are heaviest and the colour range is widest. Outside it we buy from Dutch growers, so hydrangeas are available all year, with slightly smaller heads in midwinter.
How long do hydrangeas last, and what do I do if one wilts?
Most arrangements hold for seven to fourteen days. Hydrangeas drink through their petals as well as their stems, so if a head starts to droop, submerge the whole flower head in cool water for twenty to thirty minutes and it will usually come straight back.
How do I dry hydrangeas?
Do nothing, which is the appeal. Leave the stems in the vase and let the water go down instead of topping it up; the heads dry slowly on the stem and hold their shape and a faded version of their colour for months afterwards. Drying works best on heads that are already mature and slightly papery to the touch, not on ones cut at their absolute freshest.
Do you deliver hydrangeas the same day in London?
Yes. Order by 10 PM and we deliver the same day across London and Greater London, seven days a week. Orders placed after the cut-off go out the following day.
Can you send hydrangeas outside London?
Yes — we deliver across the rest of the UK, where delivery takes two to three working days. Bouquets travelling outside London are set into florist’s foam soaked with water, so they arrive already arranged and still drinking rather than flat-packed through a letterbox.
