How to recognise it

Rounded tight buds that feel firm, often with ants on unopened buds
Large double blooms that open fully with ruffled inner petals
Glossy dark green compound leaves
Thick sturdy stems
Light fresh fragrance typical of herbaceous peonies

Care

Strip any leaves that will sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle before placing in clean water. Peonies are sensitive to ethylene, so keep away from fruit and ripening produce. Use flower food to help tight buds open and change water every two days.
