How to recognise it

Large double peony bloom with ruffled, tightly packed petals
Foliage is deep green, slightly glossy, divided compound leaves
Strong, sturdy stems typical of herbaceous peony
Bud is round and firm before opening, feels tight like a cabbage

Care

Strip any foliage that will sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle under water. Keep water clean and change it regularly, peonies are sensitive to bacteria build-up. Open buds gently in a warm room if needed, but store closed buds cool to slow opening. Keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources.
