How to recognise it

Large mophead flower head made of many small florets
Florets papery, four-petalled, white
Leaves broad, coarsely toothed, opposite on stem
Stem thick and woody at base, can split easily
No scent

Care

Recut stems under water and split or crush the base of the stem to help uptake. Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Keep in deep, cool water and top up often, as hydrangea heads are thirsty. If a head wilts, submerge the whole flower in water for a short time to revive it.
