How to recognise it

Large mophead flower cluster made of many small florets
Florets have 4 overlapping papery bracts (sepals)
Thick, hollow, slightly woody stem
Broad, serrated, glossy green leaves in opposite pairs
Little to no scent

Care

Recut stems under water and remove any foliage that sits below the waterline. Hydrangeas drink heavily, so keep vases topped up and mist the heads to prevent wilting. If a head droops, dip the cut stem end in boiling water for a few seconds or submerge the whole bloom in water for an hour. Keep away from direct heat and draughts.
