How to recognise it

Large rounded flowerhead made of many small florets, mophead type
Big papery petals arranged in clusters
Broad, coarse-toothed leaves with a matte surface
Thick, sturdy stem that can feel soft and hollow at the base
Little to no scent

Care

Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Recut the stems at an angle under water and consider smashing or splitting the stem ends to improve water uptake. Hydrangeas drink heavily, so keep water levels topped up and mist the heads if they start to wilt. They are not sensitive to ethylene.
