How to recognise it

Multiple trumpet-shaped florets per stem, often speckled or streaked throats
Narrow, twisted lance-shaped leaves along the stem
Umbel-like cluster of several blooms per stem
Slim wiry stems with buds opening progressively
No strong scent

Care

Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle before placing in clean water. Alstroemeria is not very sensitive to ethylene but benefits from flower food to help buds open fully. Keep away from direct heat and draughts, and change water every few days.
