How to recognise it

Funnel-shaped single spathe wrapped around a central yellow spadix
Smooth, waxy, glossy petal-like spathe texture
Thick, smooth, succulent-looking round stem
Arrow-shaped (sagittate) glossy leaves, sometimes sold without foliage
No true petals – the colourful part is a modified leaf (spathe)

Care

Recut stems under water and remove any foliage that will sit below the waterline. Use fresh clean water at room temperature and keep away from direct sun and heat sources. Callas are sensitive to over-deep water, which can cause stem rot, so keep water level shallow. They have low ethylene sensitivity so can be mixed safely with most other flowers.
