How to recognise it

Tall spike with densely packed florets along the stem
Florets have a spur at the back and a central 'bee' eye
Deeply lobed, divided foliage lower on the stem
Hollow, brittle stem that snaps easily
Blue to purple shades typical of this type

Care

Strip foliage that would sit below the waterline. Recut stems at an angle under water before placing in a clean vase. Delphinium is sensitive to ethylene and benefits from flower food. Stems are hollow and brittle, so handle gently to avoid snapping.
