How to recognise it

Long trailing tassel-like flower plumes hanging down from the stem
Deep red–purple colour typical of the Cycloop type
Rope-like, slightly fuzzy texture of the tassels
Broad ovate leaves along a sturdy upright stem
Tassels can reach well below the hand when held up

Care

Strip any leaves that will sit below the waterline to prevent rot and bacterial build-up. Recut stems on an angle under water before placing in a clean bucket with fresh flower food. Keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources, as the tassels can shatter and shed seed. Handle gently, as the trailing plumes bruise and tangle easily.
