How to recognise it

  • Tiny bell-shaped or tubular flowers densely packed along wiry stems
  • Needle-like small leaves covering the stem
  • Two-tone flowers, often pale tipped with darker base or vice versa
  • Woody, wiry stem texture
  • No noticeable scent

Care

Recut stems and remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline. Keep in clean water and avoid overcrowding, as fine stems are prone to drying out. Keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources. Does not like very warm rooms.

Easy to confuse with

  • Erica gracilis – smaller, rounder bell flowers
  • Calluna vulgaris – flatter, scalier foliage
