Lilac carries dense, fragrant clusters of small flowers in purple, pink or white. Florists use its abundant blooms to bring colour, softness and a classic charm to arrangements.
Strip all leaves below the waterline as they draw water away from the blooms. Recut stems at an angle and consider splitting or lightly crushing the woody base to improve water uptake. Use clean water with flower food and keep away from direct heat. Lilac is sensitive to wilting, so recut and refresh water every 1–2 days.
