Safflower has thistle-like orange or yellow blooms topped with spiky bracts, giving a bold, textured look. Florists use it to add colour and structure to rustic and dried arrangements.
Strip lower leaves that would sit in water. Recut stems and place in clean water with flower food. Very ethylene tolerant and long-lasting. Handle with care as leaves and bracts can be sharp or prickly.
