How to recognise it

Woody stems with glossy dark green leathery leaves
Clusters of tight round red-maroon buds at stem tips
Buds held in domed terminal clusters, not yet open
Leaves oval, leathery, arranged densely at stem ends
No noticeable scent from the unopened buds

Care

Recut stems at an angle and remove any foliage that sits below the waterline. Use clean water with flower food and keep away from ripening fruit as it is sensitive to ethylene. Skimmia is woody and long-lasting, so top up water regularly and recut every few days.
