How to recognise it

  • Compact branching stems with masses of tiny flowers
  • Double or semi-double small white florets
  • Fine thread-like stems, many branching nodes
  • Small narrow grey-green leaves, mostly along lower stem
  • Light airy sweet scent

Care

Strip any foliage that will sit below the waterline and recut stems before placing in clean water. Use flower food as gypsophila is sensitive to bacterial blockage. Keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources, as it is sensitive to ethylene and will drop florets. Keep in a cool spot out of direct sun and draughts.

Easy to confuse with

  • Gypsophila Danielle (fuller double heads)
  • Gypsophila paniculata single types (simpler, non-double florets)
