How to recognise it

Large oriental lily buds, teardrop-shaped, often with a faint blush before opening
Broad, wide-open trumpet-shaped flowers with recurved petal tips typical of oriental lilies
Prominent stamens with heavy pollen, usually removed by florists
Glossy, lance-shaped dark green leaves along a sturdy stem
Strong, sweet oriental lily fragrance

Care

Remove pollen-heavy anthers carefully to avoid staining petals and fabric. Strip foliage that will sit below the waterline, recut stems at an angle and place in clean water with flower food. Lilies are not especially sensitive to ethylene but keep away from ripening fruit. Change water every two days and keep in a cool, draught-free spot.
