How to recognise it

Single large bloom per stem (standard/large-flowered rose type)
High-centred bud with layered petals typical of large-flowered roses
Firm straight stem with few or no side shoots
Thorns present along the stem
Glossy compound leaves with serrated edges

Care

Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle under water. Use clean buckets with flower food and keep away from ethylene sources such as ripening fruit. Keep water clean and change it regularly, recutting every few days.
