Chrysanthemums — Autumn's Most Underrated Flower
Ask a florist which flower gives the most for the money and the answer is usually the chrysanthemum. It comes in every colour a grower has thought to breed, it holds a shape without support, and it is still fresh three weeks after it arrives. At Floritta we hand-tie chrysanthemum bouquets in our London studio, with the chrysanthemum as the lead flower — a full white chrysanthemum bouquet, a soft pink chrysanthemum bouquet with lavender accents, a smaller pastel chrysanthemum bouquet and, for a large gesture, the Pure Grace white chrysanthemum basket — and as the backbone of mixed arrangements with roses, peonies and hydrangeas. You can order chrysanthemum flowers online on this page, from £39 for the soft pink bouquet. Delivery is same-day across London, and 2–3 working days to mainland England, Wales and Scotland.
Bloom, Spray and Santini
Three different flowers wear the same name, and knowing which you want makes ordering much easier. A bloom chrysanthemum is the single large head on one stem — architectural, slightly formal, the one used in Japanese arrangements and in tribute work. A spray chrysanthemum carries five or six smaller heads on branching stems and is what most people picture in a mixed bouquet. Santini are the small-headed sprays florists use for texture, in daisy shapes and in tight pompon buttons. We use all three, and we will tell you which is in a given bouquet if it matters to you.
Chrysanthemum Bouquets from Birthdays to Sympathy
In Britain the chrysanthemum is a warm, everyday flower: an autumn birthday bouquet, a housewarming, a thank you, a bunch that simply lasts. It is the flower for a gift that still has to look good when the recipient comes back from a week away, and the one florists reach for when a bouquet needs body and colour without a large budget. White chrysanthemums are also one of the most dignified sympathy flowers there is — they hold their shape through a long service and stay fresh in an arrangement for weeks — see sympathy flowers and funeral flowers. For a celebration, we pair them with roses and peonies; for something softer, our pastel mixes lean on spray chrysanthemums, lisianthus and lavender.
Chrysanthemum Flower Delivery Across London and the UK
Order by 10 pm for same-day chrysanthemum delivery across London — Chelsea, Kensington, Fulham, Mayfair, Notting Hill, Southwark, Canary Wharf — and across Greater London on the same terms. We also send chrysanthemum bouquets to addresses across mainland England, Wales and Scotland, where delivery takes 2–3 working days. People often look for chrysanthemum flowers by post; we do not post them. Every bouquet travels by courier or with our own driver, hand-tied and ready for the vase. Bouquets travelling outside London are set into florist's foam soaked with water, so they arrive already arranged and still drinking — not flat-packed through a letterbox. Delivery is free once the order passes the free-delivery threshold shown in your basket, and the studio takes orders daily from 8 am to 10 pm. For an arrangement that needs no vase at the far end, chrysanthemums also work beautifully in our flower baskets (London addresses only) and flower boxes.
Three Weeks in a Vase
Chrysanthemums are among the longest-lasting cut flowers you can buy, and very little is needed to get there. Cut two centimetres off each stem at an angle, strip the lower leaves, and use cool water with the flower food sachet. Change the water every two or three days rather than topping it up — chrysanthemum stems cloud water faster than most. Keep them out of direct sun and away from the fruit bowl. Two to three weeks is normal — our flower care guide covers the rest — and closed buds will continue to open across the first week, so the bouquet looks different on day ten than it did on day one.
Chrysanthemum Delivery — Questions We Are Asked
How long do chrysanthemums last?
Two to three weeks in a vase, longer than most cut flowers. Change the water every two or three days rather than topping it up.
Do you deliver chrysanthemums the same day in London?
Yes. Order by 10 pm and we deliver the same day across London and Greater London. Orders after the cut-off go out the following day.
Can you send chrysanthemums across the UK?
Yes — we deliver across mainland England, Wales and Scotland in 2–3 working days. Bouquets travelling outside London are set into florist's foam soaked with water, so they arrive arranged and fresh rather than flat-packed as letterbox flowers. Delivery is free once the order passes the free-delivery threshold shown in your basket.
Can I send chrysanthemum flowers by post?
Not through the post, and that is deliberate: a chrysanthemum bouquet squeezed into a letterbox box arrives flat and thirsty. We send it by courier instead, hand-tied and set in water-soaked foam, in 2–3 working days to mainland England, Wales and Scotland, or the same day in London when you order by 10 pm. As a smaller gift, the pastel chrysanthemum bouquet is £49; the white chrysanthemum bouquet starts at £99.
Are chrysanthemums appropriate as a sympathy flower?
Yes, and white chrysanthemums are one of the most traditional choices. They hold their shape through a long service and stay fresh in an arrangement for weeks, which is why florists use them so often in tribute and sympathy work.
What is the difference between bloom and spray chrysanthemums?
A bloom chrysanthemum is one large head on a single stem. A spray carries several smaller heads on branching stems. Santini are the smallest-headed sprays, used for texture in mixed bouquets.
When are chrysanthemums in season?
Their natural season is autumn, from September to November, when the range of colours is widest. They are also one of the flowers still in season in December in the UK. They are grown under glass and available all year.
