How to recognise it

Single large standard dianthus bloom per stem, not spray-branched
Serrated petal margins typical of carnation type
Thick jointed (nodal) stem, grey-green colour
Narrow grass-like opposite leaves with waxy bloom
Clove-like scent typical of dianthus

Care

Recut stems at an angle above a node and remove any foliage that sits below the waterline. Use clean water with flower food and keep away from ripening fruit as carnations are ethylene sensitive. Recut every few days and keep the solution clean to extend vase life.
