How to recognise it

Spray chrysanthemum with several blooms per stem
Rounded button or pompon-type flower heads
Sturdy green stem with lobed, slightly rough leaves
Blooms clustered at the top of branching lateral stems
Mild earthy chrysanthemum scent

Care

Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle before placing in clean water. Chrysanthemums are not sensitive to ethylene but benefit from flower food and fresh water changed every few days. Keep away from direct heat and draughts to prolong life.
