How to recognise it

Wiry upright stem with a gentle curve near the top
Alternating sword-shaped leaves, narrow and ribbed
Double, ruffled blooms arranged along one side of the stem (floret)
Buds open progressively from the base upwards
Strong sweet fragrance typical of freesia

Care

Recut stems at an angle and remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline. Use clean water with flower food and keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources, as freesia is ethylene-sensitive. Keep stems cool and change water every two days.
