How to recognise it

  • Round to oval silver-blue-green leaves, juvenile foliage form
  • Leaves arranged in pairs along straight woody stems
  • Leaves have a matte, slightly waxy coating
  • Strong aromatic eucalyptus scent when crushed
  • Stiff, semi-woody stem

Care

Strip any foliage that will sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle before placing in water. Use clean buckets with fresh water and a flower food; eucalyptus is not ethylene sensitive but benefits from clean water changed every few days. Crush or recut woody stem ends to aid water uptake. Keep away from direct heat sources.

Easy to confuse with

  • Eucalyptus cinerea – rounder, more silvery leaves
  • Eucalyptus parvifolia – smaller, narrower leaves
