How to recognise it

Double, ruffled rose-like blooms typical of double eustoma types
Buds are rounded and papery before opening
Smooth, slightly waxy blue-green ovate leaves in opposite pairs
Sturdy, branching stems with several flowers and buds per stem
No strong scent

Care

Strip any foliage that will sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle under water. Use clean water with flower food and keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources. Keep stems cool and out of direct sun and draughts; top up and change water regularly to prevent bacterial build-up.

Easy to confuse with

Rosa (spray rose) – eustoma lacks thorns and has smoother, non-serrated leaves
Double tulip – eustoma has branching multi-flowered stems, tulip is single-flowered
