How to recognise it

Large decorative bloom form with broad, slightly curled petals arranged in symmetrical layers
Sturdy, hollow, straight stem
Mid-green, slightly glossy, toothed leaflets in opposite pairs
No scent
Fully double flower head, petals becoming narrower towards the centre

Care

Recut stems under water and remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline. Dahlias are thirsty and drink heavily, so check and top up water levels daily. They are sensitive to bacterial blockage, so use clean buckets and flower food. Keep away from direct heat and draughts; they are not notably ethylene-sensitive but age faster in warm rooms.
