How to recognise it

Mini gerbera – smaller bloom head than standard gerbera on a thin wiry stem
Single row of narrow petals around a prominent central disc
Dark, hollow stem with fine hairs
Basal rosette-type lobed leaves usually removed before sale, rarely on the stem itself
Disc may show a button-like dark or contrasting centre typical of mini types

Care

Recut stems under water and remove any foliage that would sit below the waterline. Use a clean bucket with flower food, as gerbera stems are prone to bacterial blockage and bending. Keep away from ethylene sources and draughts, and avoid very deep water which can weaken the stem. Change water regularly and re-trim if stems soften.
