How to recognise it

Single daisy-like flower head on a leafless hairy stem
Bloom diameter around 5–7 cm, smaller than standard gerbera
Ray petals surround a central disc which can be dark or green-yellow
Rosette of lobed basal leaves at the base of the plant (if sold with foliage)
Stems feel slightly fuzzy and hollow

Care

Recut stems under water and remove any foliage that sits below the waterline. Use a clean bucket with fresh flower food, as gerbera stems are prone to bacterial blockage and bending. Keep away from direct heat and draughts, and avoid overcrowding stems in the bucket. Change water every one to two days.
