How to recognise it

  • Glossy heart-shaped spathe on a slender upright stem
  • Spathe has a waxy, almost plastic-like texture
  • Small finger-like spadix projecting from the centre of the spathe
  • Dark green, leathery, heart-shaped leaves growing from soil level
  • Grown as a potted house plant, not sold as a cut stem

Care

Keep as a house plant in bright, indirect light away from direct sun and cold draughts. Water when the top of the compost feels dry, avoiding waterlogging, and wipe leaves and spathes with a damp cloth to remove dust. Do not let water sit in the saucer. Keep away from cold draughts and heaters.

Easy to confuse with

  • Other Anthurium andraeanum cultivars – differ in spathe colour and size
  • Anthurium cut flower stems – sold loose, not potted
