How to recognise it

  • Moss-covered support pole/stick inserted in pot
  • Epipremnum pinnatum climbing on the pole via aerial roots
  • Heart-shaped to deeply lobed glossy green leaves (larger near moss pole)
  • Trailing or climbing stems trained vertically
  • Thick woody-looking stems with visible nodes

Care

Keep moss pole moist by misting so aerial roots attach and climb. Water the plant when the top layer of soil is dry, avoiding waterlogging. Wipe leaves clean of dust to keep them glossy. Keep away from cold draughts and direct midday sun.

Easy to confuse with

  • Epipremnum aureum (Pothos, smaller rounder leaves)
  • Monstera deliciosa (larger fenestrated leaves)
  • Philodendron species on moss pole
