How to recognise it

Blue colouring is artificial, achieved by dye injection into a white phalaenopsis – colour is more intense near the flower centre and vein lines
Broad flat petals and sepals in classic moth-orchid shape
Thick waxy strap-like leaves at the base, no dye on foliage
Arching flower spike with several blooms open at once
Roots often visible, thick and silvery-green, growing in bark or clear pot

Care

Keep as a house plant, not a cut flower – do not place stems in water on their own. Water by soaking the bark or roots once the mix is dry, then let it drain fully; avoid waterlogging. Keep away from direct sun and draughts, in bright indirect light at room temperature. Dyed colour will not regrow in new flowers or leaves.
