How to recognise it

  • Glossy, heart-shaped waxy spathe with a central spadix
  • Thick, dark green, leathery leaves on long petioles
  • Spathe held upright on a sturdy, upright stem
  • New leaves emerge rolled (cigar-shaped)
  • Sold as a potted plant, not a cut stem

Care

Keep as a house plant in bright, indirect light, away from cold draughts and direct midday sun. Water moderately, letting the top of the compost dry slightly between waterings, and avoid waterlogging. Wipe dust off leaves with a damp cloth; do not mist the flower itself. Keep away from cold temperatures below about 15°C.

Easy to confuse with

  • Anthurium Jambo Red vs other red Anthurium Andreanum cultivars – very similar, differ mainly in spathe size and shape
