How to recognise it

  • Glossy, heart-shaped spathe with a central spadix
  • Thick, leathery dark green leaves on long petioles growing from a basal rosette
  • Spathe has a distinct waxy sheen and slightly rippled edge
  • Aerial roots may be visible at the base of the stem
  • Grown as a pot plant, not usually sold as cut stems

Care

Keep as a houseplant in bright, indirect light, away from cold draughts and direct midday sun. Water when the top of the compost feels dry, allowing excess water to drain away, and mist occasionally to keep humidity up. Wipe the leaves and spathe with a damp cloth to remove dust rather than using leaf shine products.

Easy to confuse with

  • Other Anthurium andreanum cultivars – differ in spathe colour and size
