How to recognise it
- Slender upright green canes forming a small clumping palm
- Feathery pinnate fronds with narrow, dark green leaflets
- Compact size, usually under 1 metre
- Grown in a pot, no cut stems
- May show small yellow flower clusters on mature plants
Care
Keep out of direct sun and draughts, in a warm, humid spot away from radiators. Water moderately, letting the top of the compost dry out between waterings, and mist the foliage occasionally. Wipe dust off leaves to keep them healthy and allow light absorption. Avoid overwatering, which causes root rot.
Easy to confuse with
- Chamaedorea seifrizii – clustering reed palm, thinner multiple canes
