How to recognise it

  • Glossy dark green lance-shaped leaves rising from soil
  • White hood-shaped spathe surrounding a pale central spadix
  • Compact clump-forming habit, no visible woody stem
  • Leaves on long upright petioles directly from base

Care

Keep compost evenly moist but not waterlogged, never let it dry out completely. Wipe leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep them glossy. Keep away from direct hot sun and cold draughts. Remove any yellowing leaves or spent flowers at the base.

Easy to confuse with

  • Anthurium – similar spathe shape but glossier, often coloured bract
  • Other Spathiphyllum cultivars – differ mainly in size
