How to recognise it

Single large daisy-like flower head with broad petals (ray florets) around a central disc
Pollen-free varieties have a dark or greenish centre without pollen shedding
Rough, coarse-textured hairy leaves, broad and heart-shaped
Thick, sturdy, hairy stem
No strong fragrance

Care

Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline. Recut stems at an angle and place in clean water with flower food. Sunflowers are heavy drinkers, so check and top up water levels daily. They are not particularly sensitive to ethylene.
