How to recognise it

Single large daisy-like flower head on a sturdy upright stem
Broad rough-textured heart-shaped leaves along stem
Pollenless variety – no loose pollen on petals or hands
Thick hairy green stem
Dense dark central disc surrounded by petals

Care

Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline and recut stems at an angle before placing in fresh water. Use clean buckets and change water every two days, as sunflowers are prone to bacterial build-up. They are heavy drinkers, so check and top up water levels often. Keep away from ripening fruit and other ethylene sources.
