Storage: Can be stored in the cooler at around 4–6°C, but avoid very low temperatures which can damage the petals.

How to recognise it

Large daisy-like flower head with a dark central disc
Broad, rough, heart-shaped leaves on a thick stem
Sturdy, hairy, upright stem
Petals arranged in a single or double ring around the disc
No strong scent

Care

Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline and recut the stem at an angle before placing in fresh water. Sunflowers are heavy drinkers, so check and top up water levels daily. They are not very ethylene-sensitive but benefit from clean buckets and flower food. Keep away from direct heat and draughts.
