How to recognise it

Large rounded mophead flower cluster made of many small florets
Florets have 4 overlapping papery petals each
Thick, sturdy, hollow green stem
Large, broad, toothed, glossy dark green leaves
Little to no scent

Care

Strip any leaves below the waterline as they wilt fast and drain water. Recut stems under water and consider smashing or splitting the stem end to improve uptake. Keep in deep, cool water and mist the heads if they droop, as hydrangea wilts easily from poor hydration rather than ethylene. Keep away from direct heat and draughts.
