How to recognise it

Large mophead or ball-shaped flower cluster made up of many small florets
Big papery sepals that feel slightly crisp
Sturdy thick stem with large serrated oval leaves
Flower head can be woody and dry to the touch compared to other blooms
Fairly short stem length typical of pot or cut hydrangea

Care

Recut stems under water and split or crush the base to help uptake. Strip any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Keep in deep, cool water and mist the flower heads to prevent wilting, as hydrangea is prone to drooping if it dries out. Not sensitive to ethylene.
