How to recognise it

Large mophead flower cluster made of many small florets
Thick, woody, sturdy stem
Broad, serrated, glossy green leaves in opposite pairs
Papery texture to individual florets
Stem often absorbs water poorly and wilts quickly if not treated

Care

Strip all leaves below the waterline as they draw water away from the bloom. Recut stems at an angle under water and consider splitting or crushing the stem end to improve uptake. Keep in deep, cool water and mist the flower heads to prevent wilting. Not sensitive to ethylene but prone to drooping from dehydration.
