How to recognise it

Large mophead flower cluster made of many small florets
Woody, thick stem that can feel slightly rubbery
Broad, serrated, glossy mid-green leaves
Florets feel papery to the touch when mature
Stem often splits or crushed at base when prepped for water uptake

Care

Strip leaves below the waterline and recut the stem at an angle; splitting or crushing the base helps water uptake. Use deep, cool water and consider misting the heads, as hydrangea wilts quickly if dry. Keep away from direct heat and draughts; not sensitive to ethylene. Recut stems every couple of days to maintain hydration.
