How to recognise it

Large mophead flower cluster made of many small florets
Big rounded florets with papery texture
Thick, sturdy stem that is somewhat hollow and brittle
Large coarse serrated leaves
No noticeable scent

Care

Strip all leaves below the waterline as they wilt fast and foul the water. Recut stems at an angle and consider splitting or crushing the stem end to improve water uptake. Hydrangeas are thirsty – keep in deep, cool water and mist heads if they droop; dunking wilted heads fully in water can revive them. Keep away from direct heat and draughts; not sensitive to ethylene.
