Dense upright spikes of small four-petalled florets packed closely along the stem
Grey-green, slightly fleshy and softly fuzzy leaves
Sturdy round stem that feels slightly hairy
Strong clove-like fragrance
Florets open from the base of the spike upwards

Care

Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline to keep water clean. Recut stems at an angle and place in fresh, clean water with flower food. Matthiola is sensitive to ethylene, so keep away from ripening fruit and old flowers. Keep cool and out of direct sun and draughts to prolong life.
