Stocks produce tall spikes of densely packed, ruffled petals in shades of pink, purple and white, known for their sweet fragrance. Florists use them to add height, colour and scent to bouquets.
Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline to keep water clean. Recut stems at an angle and place in fresh, clean water with flower food. Matthiola is sensitive to ethylene, so keep away from ripening fruit and old flowers. Keep cool and out of direct sun and draughts to prolong life.
