How to recognise Columbus tulip, when it is in season and how to keep it fresh.
Trim stems at an angle and remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline. Use cool, clean water and recut every 2–3 days; tulips keep growing in the vase, so stems may need shortening. Keep away from direct heat and strong draughts, and do not mix with daffodils unless the daffodils have been conditioned separately, as their sap can shorten tulip life.
5–8 days
Store in the cooler at 2–5°C, standing in clean water.
Toxic – keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
