How to recognise Yellow tulip, when it is in season and how to keep it fresh.

Season: British season spring (March–May), available year-round from imports J F M A M J J A S O N D
Vase life: 5–7 days
Storage: Store in the cooler at around 2–5°C, standing upright in shallow water.

How to recognise it

Smooth, cup-shaped closed bud at the top of the stem
Yellow petals, usually with no scent or a faint sweet one
Thick, smooth, slightly waxy stem that keeps growing after cutting
Broad, strap-shaped grey-green leaves that sheath the stem
Stems are soft and bend easily compared with woody flowers

Care

Trim stems at an angle and place in shallow cool water, as tulips continue to grow and can bend towards light. Keep away from direct heat and strong draughts. Tulips are not very sensitive to ethylene. Re-cut stems every couple of days and change the water to keep it clean.
